How Wristbands Support Juvenile Diabetes Awareness?

Best Way To Use Custom Bracelets for Education, Awareness

Wristbands personalized with diabetes awareness message help us to raise awareness and educate people on this serious disease. More than 15,000 children are diagnosed with juvenile diabetes each year. Juvenile diabetes is Type 1 diabetes diagnosed in a child. It is very different than Type 2 diabetes, and educating the public about the difference between the two is an important step in helping people understand the challenges of managing Type 1 diabetes.

Wristbands Support Juvenile Diabetes

November is American Diabetes Month, which includes many events to raise awareness of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes (also known as juvenile-onset or insulin-dependent diabetes), accounts for 5 to 10 out of 100 people who have diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body's immune system destroys the cells that release insulin, eventually eliminating insulin production from the body. Without insulin, cells cannot absorb sugar (glucose), which they need to produce energy. Juvenile diabetes can be difficult to manage and can greatly affect a child or teen’s life. While advances in medicine and technology have come a long way, more research is needed to help manage Type 1 diabetes and help children with this disease live normal lives.

Facts about Juvenile Diabetes

There is no cure for juvenile diabetes. Taking insulin keeps children with diabetes alive, it is not a cure. Here are some important facts about juvenile diabetes from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation:

While obesity has been identified as one of the “triggers” for type 2 diabetes, it has no relation to the cause of type 1 diabetes. Scientists do not yet know exactly what causes T1D, but they believe that both genetic and environmental factors are involved. Eating too much sugar is not a factor.

  • Even with careful monitoring, Type 1 diabetes can be difficult to manage. Many factors, including stress, hormone changes, periods of growth, and illness can easily cause blood sugars to swing out of control. Teenagers, in particular, may be susceptible to this problem, as their bodies go through many changes during adolescence.
  • Type 1 diabetes, formerly known as “juvenile” or “juvenile onset” diabetes, is often first diagnosed in children, teenagers, or young adults. However, people may develop T1D at any age.
  • High blood sugar levels related to Type 1 diabetes can eventually damage blood vessels, nerves, and organ systems in the body.
  • Hypoglycemia, low blood sugar, is a dangerous condition for people with diabetes. It can be triggered by not eating often enough, eating too little food, too much physical activity without eating, or too much insulin.
