Wristbands Promote Non-Profit Daniel's Care Van
When the shock of a tragedy begins to settle, inspiration often takes shape. Such is the story of Daniel's Care Van, a Denver-based non-profit that provides transportation to children in need who are fighting cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. The little boy at the center of this story is Daniel Gomez, otherwise known as Daniel the Brave.
Daniel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in June of 2011. Within a few months of his diagnosis, doctors at Children's Hospital Colorado discovered that Daniel had a rare type of childhood leukemia caused by the chromosomal translocation t(17;19). Although the best doctors were on his case, leukemia stole Daniel from this world on February 17, 2012, at only three years old.
The Inspiration for Daniel's Care Van
Losing their only child, Daniel's parents were living every parent's worst nightmare. Though overwhelmed with grief, Jeri Jones and Ruben Gomez chose to channel their emotions into giving back to the cancer community. They became involved with different charities specific to childhood cancer and blood cancers. Last year, they took their selfless dedication to children with cancer to a whole new level.
Throughout the many months of Daniel's treatment, Jeri noticed other patients' families using the public bus to get to and from treatment. She knew the hardships of having a child with cancer first-hand, and she realized how much more challenging that experience would be without reliable transportation. Daniel, even at such a young age, was a generous soul who always wanted to make the people around him smile. The need Jeri recognized in the childhood cancer community, combined with Daniel's spirit of generosity, sparked the creation of Daniel's Care Van.
Wristbands to Support the Cause
A non-profit organization funded completely by donations, the motto of Daniel's Care Van says it all: Transporting the Brave. The organization's single mission is to transport children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses to and from their outpatient appointments when the family lacks reliable transportation. As part of a push to raise awareness of the cause and solicit donations from both individuals and corporations, Daniel's Care Van created custom wristbands with their website address and tagline of Transporting the Brave. The wristbands will be used to spread awareness about the organization and thank donors for their contributions.
