Primarily a pediatric cancer, about 20% of childhood brain tumors are Medulloblastomas and about 500 children are diagnosed with this form of cancer each year. Caleb Johnson, a boy from Texas, was diagnosed in October 2014 and continues to battle the disease. His dad, along with many of his supporters wear wristbands printed with “CALEBSTRONG” to show their love and devotion to this brave young boy.

The Caleb Johnson Road to a CURE Facebook community has grown to over 2,200 followers. Caleb was only six years old when he was diagnosed with Large Cell Ana-plastic medulloblastoma. His treatment includes surgery, proton radiation, and high-dose chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant. You can support Caleb by following his Facebook page and wishing him well on his journey against childhood cancer.

  • While medulloblastomas often grow quickly and spreads to other parts of the body, especially the bones or bone marrow, they usually respond well to treatment.
  • These tumors tend to spread to other parts of the brain and to the spinal cord.
  • Symptoms of medulloblastoma include: Headaches, morning nausea or vomiting that gradually gets worse, problems with handwriting and sometimes visual problems.
  • Survival rates in children with medulloblastoma depend on the patient’s age and how much the tumor spreads. If the disease has not spread, survival rates are around 70 to 80 percent. If the disease has spread to the spinal cord, the survival rate is about 60 percent. Children younger than age 3 often have lower survival rates because their disease tends to be more aggressive.
