Wristbands For Severe Weather Preparedness

Wristbands For Severe Weather Preparedness

Design wristbands to educate people on severe weather alerts. With the change in seasons comes a change in the weather. Spring and summer severe weather dangers include tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, severe thunderstorms, hail, and high winds. While there’s nothing anyone can do to prevent severe weather from happening, people can be prepared. Many severe weather preparedness events aim to educate the public on how to protect themselves and their property when severe weather hits.

How to Customize Your Severe Weather Wristbands

Customize your severe weather preparedness wristbands with a custom message and custom artwork. The type of severe weather most likely to occur in your area might influence your message. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration uses the slogan “Be a Force of Nature” to help educate people in preparedness. Other messages might be something simple like “Be Prepared” or something specific to your event, such as “Always Prepared in Branford.” Choose your font, colors and more!

Severe Weather Preparedness Tips

Here are some important tips from FEMA about staying safe when tornadoes strike.

No place is safe from tornadoes. Ensure you know the warning system in your community and where to go in the event of a tornado. It is a myth that urban areas and communities near lakes, rivers, and mountains are safe from tornadoes.

Although the likelihood is lower during colder months, tornadoes are a risk any time of year. Most recently, an outbreak of destructive tornadoes hit southern Illinois on February 29, 2012; two days later, a second string caused widespread damage in southern Indiana. It’s important to have a family preparedness plan year-round to ensure you’re always ready for severe weather.

Opening windows doesn’t reduce the risk of home damage from a tornado or severe weather. Instead, close windows to keep high winds out and minimize damage from flying debris.

If you’re driving when a tornado hits, do not seek shelter under highway overpasses or under bridges – these areas can actually become dangerous wind tunnels that collect flying debris. If possible, you should drive away from the tornado or seek shelter in a nearby structure.

If you’re in a mobile home, evacuate immediately. Mobile homes are vulnerable to overturning and destruction from strong winds and tornadoes. If possible, leave and go to a community shelter.Have a plan of action prepared before a storm hits.
